The NAIT Academic Staff Association (NASA) is the union that represents the instructors, chairs, librarians, counsellors, and curriculum and instructional specialists at NAIT. NASA is currently bargaining with NAIT, and this is a resource for NASA members and supporters which focuses on the differences in proposals related to students, reflecting discussions that have taken place through to October 30, 2024.
NASA members’ working conditions are student learning conditions. This isn’t just a slogan. Class sizes, instructor workload, counsellor-to-student ratios, and competitive salaries all impact the experience for students whose educational experience is supported and enhanced by the instructors, counsellors, librarians, and curriculum and instructional specialists.
This table compares the differences in proposals tabled to date by NAIT and by NASA. Most proposals were tabled on August 1, 2024, with additional proposals tabled by NASA on September 25, 2024.
Recognition of these differences in negotiations at other institutes has led to student support of faculty and support staff for improvements to their working conditions.
NASA’s ability to win these improvements and prevent NAIT’s proposals to increase the class size formula will depend on support from NASA members and allies. If you are not a NASA member, you can click here to send an email and join the supporters list to be informed of future events and actions.
